Health vision

As a biologist and environmental consultant I believe in 'vis medicatrix naturae' or the healing power of nature. We can all strenghten our bodies' natural defence mechanisms against diseases. How? By practising a healthy lifestyle with good food, regular exercise, meaningful activities and social interactions. And if, despite all our efforts, we do fall ill, extra healthy nutrition supplemented by vitamins and minerals may help us to turn the tide and restore the balance in our body. 

Disclaimer: I'm a biologist, with a special interest in neurobiology and nutrition. I recommend anyone who suffers from a serious illness, to seek professional medical help. With this website I like to share my findings on natural alternatives to stay healthy or become healthy again. When I write about the beneficial effects of certain foods for your health, this is based on the most recent scientific insights. Yet (another disclaimer..) these insights may progress in time. As soon as this comes to my knowledge, I will change the contents of the site accordingly.

A holistic approach

A holistic approach to health considers the whole person, includings all its interdependent parts, and how he or she interacts with the environment. Holistic health is also based on the assumption that physical and mental state are interconnected. For overall well-being a healthy life-style and maintaining a good balance between body and mind is essential.

The most powerful medicine resides within our body. We only need to support it in the right way. Nutrition plays an essential role in this repect. We can consume food to fill or feed ourselves and thus weaken or strenghten our bodies. Read more in "Food for thought".

We are meant to move! Daily movement, in any form, will make you feel better and brigther every day. Exercise enhances blood circulation and also stimulates the growth of new nerve cells and synapses in the brain. It makes you feel fit and strong. Enough reasons to start exercising!

There is a relationship between events, thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Experiences during your lifetime colour your view on life and determine how you deal with challenges that arise. Mindfulness may help you think and feel more positively and enable you to better cope with stressful life events.
